Parkesburgs Sesquicentennial Celebration
An Historic Celebration 150 Years in the Making
Parkesburg, PA 19365

Parkesburg is hosting an historic action-packed three-day Sesquicentennial Celebration on the weekend of May 20, 21 and 22, 2022 and you are invited

We are excited to unveil our line-up for the Parkesburg Sesquicentennial Celebration which has been pieced together as a colorful patchwork of festivities stitched together with the vibrant thread of Parkesburg history.

Parkesburg, settled originally by Scotch-Irish settlers, was first known as the Fountain Inn and predates the Revolutionary War.  An early center of commerce for western Chester County, rapid growth ignited in 1831 when the tracks of the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad were laid through Fountain Inn on its westward expansion.  Renamed Parkesburg in 1836 after the landowning Parke Family, the town saw exponential growth after Horace Beale moved his Iron Company from Hibernia to Parkesburg in 1872, the same year Parkesburg became a Chester County Borough.

And here we are, 150 years later, honoring the formation of the Borough of Parkesburg!  So "What is planned?" you might ask.

Starting on Friday night, May 20th, the festivities will launch with a Victorian Night on Main Street from 5 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. with a wide array of artists, crafters, dancers and musicians who will greet visitors in the various Main Street buildings that will be open for the evening.

Festivities on Saturday, May 21st will entertain from 10:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. when we showcase a parade as well as an exciting cluster of free family-fun activities in Minch Park. From Historic Trolley Rides to a Fine Arts and Craft Show to a Children’s History Carnival, to Band and Dance Performances to a Living-History Revolutionary and Civil War Encampment to History Displays to the Octorara’s OABEST Display to Train Rides & Hayrides to the Anniversary Parade to scrumptious Food to Fireworks, this free event has something for everyone!

Sunday, May 22nd festivities kick off with a Veteran Memorial Service over at the Veterans Memorial at Borough Hall. At 11:00 a.m. we are back in Minch Park for a Community Worship Service, Chester County Concert Band Performance, Food Collection for the Parkesburg Food Cupboard, Picnic and Closing Ceremony with the opening of the Parkesburg Time Capsule.
